The American Family Structure Maintains Its National Spirits

The American family structure, best known as the “nucleus family”, plays an important role in maintaining the American spirits of diligence and creativity, on both of which the Americans have laid great value since the very beginning of the nation.

Firstly, the American spirit of diligence is fully illustrated in the nucleus family. The nation’s tradition of emphasizing independence and individual capability accounts essentially for the establishment of the nucleus family which is composed of a couple and their children only, in which way the married children can cherish their independence from their parents. Instead of living with their parents and enjoying a life with everything ready at hand, the young couples, spurred by the sense of independence which has deeply rooted in the American character, choose to live separately with their parents to start life from zero and earn their own livings by working hard. Being financially independent together with being in charge of a family could enhance the young couple’s individual capability that would fortify their sense of independence which in turn inspires the quality of diligence in the young. Thus the nucleus family operates vitally in preserving the American spirit of diligence through the pursuit of independence.

Secondly, the nucleus family has a subtle influence on maintaining the spirit of individual creativity. With the young couple’s breakaway from their parents to live separately and establishing their household independently comes their break out of the routine living and thinking pattern of the old family. The nucleus families consist of young couples are more or less like youth communities that are filled with initiative, brand-new ideas and prospects. Moreover, without the interference from the old authority, the young couples take chief charge of their personal affairs and are able to make decisions by themselves so as to carry out new plans and try new ways. In handling family affairs independently and creatively, the young are likely to develop their creativity further, which consequentially performs the function of carrying on the national heritage of individual creativity.

The typical American family structure, the nucleus family, has so important a role as to be fundamental in maintaining the national spirits of diligence and individual creativity, both of which are counted as the spiritual fortune of the nation that has a principle function in keeping the country prosperous since its foundation. It goes well with the American society and has to a large extent ensured further individual development which forms the basis for the country’s development. In conclusion, the nucleus family and the American spirits consist in each other as well as benefit from each other and
