Globalization: a blessing or a curse

Over the past two decades, our society has witnessed unprecedented changes in the overwhelming trend of globalization. Globalization is ubiquitous in every field: when we walk around the street, KFC and McDonald are opened on every single available corner. It is difficult to resist the temptation of the aroma of well known fast food such as these; people pay more attention to Valentine’s Day or Christmas. Although the word had been widely used, until now it still a controversial issue.

The advantages are easy to see by looking occurrences that happen all over the world. For one thing, globalization will widen the gap between the rich and the poor. The advantages in economy, technology, and management by western developed countries are better than developing counties. Therefore, developed countries are the biggest beneficiary in the globalization. For another thing, economic globalization makes the world economy more instable. Globalization also cause environmental damage and spread the disease especially in developing countries.

We hold that globalization is a double –edged sword. Indeed, globalization has a significant impact on the economy, politics and culture, as a consequence, it has become an irreversible trend.


Globalization makes the world smaller. In financial aspects, it can facilitate economic growth and bring more fortune. Economic globalization has improved the development of the enterprise and it will increase more new employment opportunities. In cultural way, cultural spread faster than before, the barriers of political and intellectual property have reduced, for every nations from another point of view, cultural globalization can also be seen as an opportunity to show traditional culture to the world. It promotes the improvement of national culture, and people can enjoy a higher quality life easily. In politically, Economic globalization makes people contact strengthen in social life of all aspects, it inevitable require governments adjust and redesign its political strategy, so the behavior of governments has become more and more globalization. Political globalization is evident in the growing importance of international organizations. These organizations such as WTO, World Bank and United Nations are transnational and enable states to take concerted action without sacrificing national sovereignty.

Everything has two sides, as for china, from my point of view, globalization is both a challenge and an opportunity. From the traditional spring festival to the western Christmas ,from the family-centered cultures to the more independent living styles, the introduction of western culture is having an increasing impact on the traditional Chinese values. So it is time to roll every thing that benefit us into one and perfect our


social system and civilization.

Globalization is not something that you can accept or reject, it is already a matter of life which you will encounter and have to respond to every day. I do not deny the drawback of globalization. But it is not more than disadvantages than advantages. We need the information and each country’s goods by globalization. We have become accustomed to the global culture integration. Globalization has deep into our life, and bring us the conveniences far more than its negative effects.
