The Culture of Tang Poetry

The way of life that a group of people builds up over a long period of time becomes the people’s culture. Culture includes the people’s values and beliefs as well as their technical competency. Some aspects of culture are learned in a formal setting, such as a school, while other aspects are learned informally in the process of day-to-day living. The culture is always changing. Changes in culture often come about by borrowing from another culture or by inventing. To enrich the culture of our nation, we are constantly adapting new inventions and new ideas into our way of life. Different countries have different culture, for example the differences between Chinese and western culture, they are different in manners, language and so many others. Maybe history is one of the major causes of it. Chinese culture is older than 5000 years, and Chinese people have developed their own music, musical instruments, painting techniques, traditional Chinese medicine, and not to forget, cooking methods as well which is completely different and unique when compared to western culture. So this is time I’m going to talk about the culture about Tang Poetry. A high point of classical Chinese poetry occurred during the Tang period: not only was this period prolific in poets, but also in poems. During the time of Tang in China, poetry was integrated into almost every aspect of the professional and social life of the literate class.

Tang poetry is the highest achievement of the development of poetry in China. It really deserves its fame as a rarity of Chinese culture. Its dazzling value consists of an ideal combination of thoughts and art. It inherits the Wei and Jin dynasties the essence of poetry, and due to the beginning of Tang culture, clear political, as well as the rulers of respecting to others, the poetry of the Tang dynasty has developed rapidly, such as the Tang dynasty’s imperial examination system to take an examination of poetry specially. And most of the Tang dynasty poets love roaming, such as Li Bai and Du Fu who have traveled almost half of China’s territory. Their works widen the poets’ horizons, the themes of their works are extensive and rich associated. The style of the poetry of the Tang dynasty is various: the subjects are abundant which provide rich templates for the creation of poem of later generations. As the old saying goes: If you have recited thoroughly 300 Tang poems, even when you can’t write the poem, you will be able to chant some. Now, Modern Chinese poems (new poetry) usually do not follow any prescribed pattern.. Poetry was revolutionized after the May Fourth Movement when writers try to use vernacular styles closer to what was being spoken rather than previously prescribed forms. Chinese poetry early on influenced pots in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Later on, it would be a big influence in the rest of the world, ranging from the poetic movement known as Beat poetry to the pop song ”Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”.
