Francis Bacon was an English philosopher , statesman , essay writer and scientist . He was born in London and was the son of a prominent statesman under Queen Elizabeth I . He studied in Cambridge University and later was introduced to the royal court . Bacon made some achievements in his political career , but he was mainly remembered as a philosopher . He wrote many important books on philosophy and science , of which The Great Instauration won the attention of scholars both at home and abroad . His essays were famous for their brevity , compactness and powerfulness . He was considered a master of English prose .
