On the Distribution of AC and DC Winding Capacitances in High-Frequency Power Transformers With Rectifier Loads

AbstractIn this paper, a method to adjust the ac winding capacitance of high-voltage high-frequency transformers by means of windingrectier integration is described. First, a theoretical background to the method is given. From the theory, an equivalent circuit describing the characteristics of the combination of the transformer and the rectifier is derived. The derived circuit introduces the concept of a dc capacitance. Finally, the equivalent circuit and the method itself are veried by means of experiments on a transformerrectier system from an industrial application with the ratings 70 kV, 30 kW, and 25 kHz. The results from the experiments show that it is possible to vary the ac component of the winding capacitance from a few percent up to 95% of the total winding capacitance. This means that it is virtually free to choose between ac and dc capacitances during the design stage. This is very important in applications such as resonant converters with transformers having secondary windings connected to rectifiers with capacitive output lters.

I. INTRODUCTION

BIDIRECTIONAL dcdc converters have important value on theory and application in power conversion elds with bidirectional power flow, such as battery charging and discharging, photovoltaic power supplies system of satellite, electrical vehicles, standby power supplies, etc [1][3]. Therefore,


much research has been carried out on bidirectional dcdc converters recently. Especially, there are more problems to be researched and solved in the isolated bidirectional dcdc converter than non-isolated one [4][9]. The purpose of this paper is to make a significant exploratory research on inverter with high-frequency link (HFL) achieved by isolated bidirectional dcdc converter. Recent researches on inverter with HFL were limited to the dcdc converter mode and the cyclo-converter mode inverters with HFL [10], [11]. The dcdc converter mode inverter with HFL has two-stage circuit configuration and no perfect conversion efficiency, thus the cyclo-converter mode inverter with HFL has the features such as the same frequency conversion, surge voltage, and surge current of the cyclo-converter to be difficulty suppressed. Therefore, it is necessary to seek a novel HFLs inverter with single-stage circuit configuration and higher conversion efficiency.A new idea of HFLs inverter with single-stage power conversion is proposed in this paper, i.e., differential buck dcdc chopper mode HFL inverter is proposed and investigated. This kind of inverter will lay a strong technology foundation on new type HFLs inverting power supply.
