Welcome to the unit
Teaching aims :1.The aims of the knowledge:to master new
words
2.The aims of the abilities: to revise
vocabulary about helping people in the community
3.The aims of the emotion: to generate
ideas about ways to care for and help others
Teaching emphasis: some important new words and phrases Teaching difficulties: be careful Teaching methods: task-based approach
Teaching aids: Projector, Slide show , Tape recorder and
pictures
Teaching procedures:
Step I. Warming-up activity Step II. Lead-in
Lead to the new word ‘ability’ by some pictures.
(Read and translate into Chinese) Step III. Presentation
1. Answer some questions to lead to the new words ‘fly and Superdog’. (1) Who is he? (2) What can he do? (3) Can he fly?
(4) Do you think there is any Superdog in the world ? (5) Is Eddie a Superdog ?
2.Look at the pictures , listen to the radio and some questions .
(1) Is Eddie a Superdog?
(2) What do you think about Eddie?
(3) What does Hobo say when Eddie wants to fly? (4) Why does he say that? 3.Read and act the dialogue .
Step IV. Language points and some exercises Step V. Presentation
1. Lead to the new words ‘elderly and collect’ by some pictures and questions.
2. T: People have different abilities. Some people use their abilities to help others. Would you like to help others if you can? What can we do for others? 3. . Ask some students to say what they can do for others.
For examples: We can help mum or dad wash the dishes. S1: I can help our teachers collect the exercise books every morning.
S2: I can help the elderly clean up their rooms. S3: I can give seats to the old on the bus . Step VI. Activities
1. T: If you want to help more people or do more
for others , I think you can join the Helping Hands
Club . Would you like to know about the club? Here are some pictures of it. Let’s have a look. 2. Answer some questions (Look at Picture One) (1).Where are the boy and the old man? (2).What do they want to do? (3).Is the boy helping the old man?
3. Answer some questions to discuss with students
(Look at Picture Two, Three, Four, Five, Six)
4. Read the descriptions.
5. Match the pictures below with the descriptions
and check the answers. Step VII. Exercises
1. Discuss what they did and what they will do to help others.
2. Do some exercises. Step VIII. Homework
1. Remember some words and phrases. 2. Recite Comic strip.
3. Write an article on ‘Helping Hands Club’. ( Su Chunlian, Shidian Middle School)
