Compared with the Western Valentine’s Day, Qixi Festival is less attractive to Chinese young people, which has worried cultural experts. Actually, other traditional Chinese festivals are also losing their appeal among Chinese young people.
Many factors can explain why people pay less attention to Chinese traditional festivals. One reason is that as China is opening to the outside world, more and more foreign ideas are accepted by Chinese people, including cultural concepts, like Western festivals. Besides, our country hasn’t attached enough importance to preserving culture and traditional festivals.
Admittedly, traditional festivals are an important part of a country’s culture. As cultural heritage, they are precious treasure from the country’s ancestors. Besides, they are unique and carry great significance, which promote pride in the nation. Celebrating traditional festivals can strengthen the unity of the whole nation. Additionally, the celebration is a great chance for family and friends to get together.
Therefore, some effective measures must be taken to preserve our traditional festivals. To start with, the government is supposed to hold a series of activities, making our younger generation know more about our culture and the significance of the traditional festivals. Meanwhile, it is a good idea to make it a law to celebrate traditional festivals.
