Topic: Revision of vocabulary in Senior 3
Teacher: Dai Yan
Date: October 14, 2015 Class: Class 8, Senior 3
Teaching Objectives:
1. to enable students to be aware of the 4 steps intended for effective revision of vocabulary in Senior 3
2. to help students to overcome some difficulties in Vocabulary test and Reading Comprehension due to the problem of vocabulary
3. to introduce 4 practical methods of memorizing words to enlarge and consolidate students’ vocabulary
Teaching aids: Multi-media
Teaching methods: Tasked-based approach, learner-centered method
Teaching Procedures: Step 1:
1.1. Introduce 4 steps concerning the effective revision of Vocabulary: Hit the charts; Overcome Difficulties; List Methods and Develop Skills.
1.2. Raise 3 questions bothering students and try to discuss them respectively in details later. Step 2:
1.1. Raise Question1: How to deal with the Vocabulary section more effectively?
1.1.1. Summarize 3 solutions to Question 1 based on the exercise from CEE and a clear analysis of the questions.
1.1.2.The solutions are: a) focus on polysemy&Homonymy; b) pay attention to Derivation c) attach importance to Collocation
1.2. Raise Question 2: How to deal with unknown words in reading?
1.2.1. Develop students’ word-guessing ability based on context clues, logical connection and word formation.
1.3. Raise Question 3: How to memorize words more efficiently and effectively? 1.3.1. Come up with 4 tips on effective words’ memorization.
1.3.2. The 4 tips include: a) Highlight some high-frequency and newly-added words; b) Memorize words in different contexts; c) Apply semantic field theory to memorizing words; d) Appreciate some good sentences or proverbs every day. Step 3:
Brief summary of the different skills developed for the revision of vocabulary
Assignment:
review and Memorize all the new words mentioned in class
