Being a popular student

We all hope to be popular with our classmates and teachers．To enjoy popularity, we are supposed to regard the class as our big family and try our best to take an active part in all our class activities．We should be responsible for the work and keep teamwork spirit in mind.

To be a popular student, we must show our respect, concern and sympathy for others．As a result, we never hesitate to lend a hand to those in need.

To be a popular student, we ought to be strict with ourselves in everything we do at school and make an effort to achieve all-round development, being good not only at our lessons but also at sports, music, painting, social services and so on．In time of success we remain modest, while in time of difficulty we keep strong-minded. All in all, being a popular student among the classmates and teachers comes naturally to those who keep improving their personal qualities.

Society is changing rapidly

Society is changing rapidly. As a result, more and more people are suffering from stress. Those who are stressed out are often nervous, angry or ill. People must, therefore, learn to deal with this "new" kind of problem. Regular exercise is one way. The best way, however, is to keep a good sense of humor.



Showing off

Many people are fond of showing off. They always insist on payingthe bill when they are out with friends. They always think of impressing people with their wealth. They seem to think that money can buy friends. In fact, it can't. Instead of trying to show off, they should be themselves.

Rome wasn’t built in a day

Laying a strong foundation is the first and most important step. In other words, you should read and speak English every day. Memorizing new words and phrases is also helpful. Of course, learning English takes some time, so don’t be impatient. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.



On learning

Learning is one’s own business, which cannot rely on others. As we know, learning is a process of accumulating knowledge. It is one’s life-long task, which cannot be accomplished in one move. A successful learner is an independent one who has both an indomitable will and amazing endurance. He will try to discover his own way of learning.



A balanced diet

Some people eat to live, but there are others who live to eat. To live a long and healthy life, we must learn to have a balanced diet. A balanced diet simply means a bit of everything. A diet which includes meat, fish, vegetables and fruit is, of course ideal. If you watch your diet, then you won’t have to suffer the pain of going on a diet


The Dictionary

The dictionary is a living teacher. Whenever you come across a new word, just consult it and you will get a clear definition. Every student, whether attending school or self-taught, should always have a dictionary at hand. As a study aid, it is convenient, inexpensive.

Language skills will develop with your constant use of various dictionaries. The more you use them, the more familiar you will become with them. Sooner or later, you will be quite skilled in finding the page, scanning the entries and locating the exact

meanings of the new words.

Should high school students surf the Internet

I'm writing to persuade you to let us surf the Internet in the classroom. We know you're afraid that we may be exposed to unhealthy websites .Actually every coin has two sides. We still think that surfing the Internet can bring us much more advantages.

First of all, I think it would be better if we can surf the Internet, because there is a wide range of learning resources on the Internet. We can broaden our horizons by reading various news online. Last but not least, as high school students, we are building up our sense of judgment .Given chances ,we are sure that we will learn how to stay away from unhealthy websites.

I do hope you can take my suggestion into consideration and make a final decision.

Mr. Moore

Of all my teachers ,Mr. Moore is the one who impresses me most. He is 34, but he looks young for his age. And he’s one of the most popular teachers in our school. Mr. Moore pays more attention to his way of teaching, compared with other teachers. He tries different ways to make his classes active and lively. In his opinion, we should not only know “what”, but understand “why”. So, instead of giving us answers immediately, he encourages us to think by ourselves whenever he puts forward questions. With his help, we’ve learned how to settle problems. He leads us to such a wonderful world of “why” that we all admire and respect him.



Reading

I think that people should spend more time reading．Reading has a lot of

advantages． One of them is that it helps you develop reading skills． You have to read if you want to become a good reader． In other words， the more you read， the better you get at reading．Second， it helps develop a good vocabulary． Reading exposes you to new words， and you see how those words are used．Third， reading helps you develop good writing skills． If you read a lot， it will help you become a good writer．Finally， you can learn a lot from reading． You learn about current events from reading newspapers． A novel that is set in another country will


help you learn about that country and how people live there． There is no limit to what you can learn．All this makes reading a beneficial activity．
