What is more important to career success, interpersonal relationship among colleague or individual practical ability? It’s a big problem for every new comer. One promote because of popularity whereas one does because of excellent practical ability. The issue exits in every company or institution.

Those who support interpersonal relationship is superior to ability usually

emphasis the harmony of a society. Without it, instead of hatred to each other, there will be a terrible thing that every employee doesn’t work at heart but has to mind protecting oneself from colleagues. With it, peace atmosphere not only keep friendly in workshops or offices but also improve the job quality up. Even if a skilled man is, one should be excluded if absent it.

But there is an objection that practical ability must be the first factor to career success in every situation. Prefer ability to interpersonal relationship may stand by the principle, they say, as flourish is irrigated by sweat. Good

relationship could keep touch with colleagues but nothing to do with your work in deed. Will your boss prompt you for your goodness? Making money is the soul to a corporation. Thus, a kind but impractical, lack of capability employee certainly ends with dismissal. Being a popular is one thing, but getting up is another.

The relationship between self-report abilities and personality was examined at both the phenotypic (zero-order) level as well as at the genetic and environmental levels. Twins and siblings (N = 516) completed self-report ability and personality questionnaires. A factor analysis of the ability questions revealed 10 factors, including politics, interpersonal relationships, practical


tasks, intellectual pursuits, academic skills, entrepreneur/business, domestic skills, vocal abilities, and creativity. Five personality factors were examined, including extraversion, conscientiousness, dependence, aggression, and openness. At the phenotypic level, the correlations between the ability factor scores and personality factor scores ranged from 0 to .60 (between political abilities and extraversion). The relationship between the two areas at the genetic level was found to range between –.01 and .60; the environmental correlations ranged from –.01 to .48. The results suggest that some of the self-report ability scores are related to self-report personality, and that some of these observed relationships may have a common genetic basis while others are from a common environmental factor.

In conclusion ,taking into account all these statements,I might safely come to a conclusion that to a successful career , one’s practical ability is more important than interpersonal relationship.

Time will show that, Ability is the core of successful career and interpersonal relationship is just a lubricant . Each person in his own success, or in job, will face some challenges, maybe we have a good interpersonal relationship, we can find a good job under the introduction of our friends ,but when we truly at work and our workmates do not admit our ability, so we also have no ability to truly achieve the company's demand, in the end you will face to be ousted, you also have no chance to get the success. This is why practical ability is very important.
