The fifth period of unit 4 is a listening and speaking lesson. 2.Staus and function
It is focused on the topic of interpersonal communication. The functional view sees language as a means for doing things, such as offering, suggseting, advising and so on.Talk about problems and give advice by using modal verbs “could” and “should”. Since it’s a dialogue, it’s helpful to improve the Ss communicative ability. 3.Teaching guideline
Language is for communication, so I lay special emphasis on listening and speaking. Because they are skills, only skills can be imitated and practised. So I try to improve the Ss’ ability to solve the problems.II.Teaching aims and demands
1.Knowledge objects: To grasp key vocabulary
Learn to talk about problems and give advice by using modal verbs
Teaching “could” and “should”. Aims Conjunctions “until”,“so that”and “although”. and 2.Ability objects:To improve student’s ability of listening and speaking demands and train the ability of analyzing and solving problems.
3.Moral objects: Think of advice and express yourself.
To teach them to understand help each other when they are in trouble.

Have a discussion about what gives Ss stress in their lives by showing some pictures. Let Ss give some examples about their problems. Call students to learn to relax and think about the ways to lower stress.
Ask Ss to read the phrases in 1a, Order them. Then talk about the activities with the partners.
Call S’ attention to the problems in 1C,encourage Ss to predict the content of what they are about to hear, help them by asking leading questions. According to the problems, ask students to give their advice.
Ask students to read Alice’s advice in the box in 1d, have Ss guess the answers before listening. Play the tape for the second time and finish 1d. check the answers. After that, read the tapescripts and Role play.

Read aloud, Then order them [1-8]. Explain the ranking to the partner.
Predict the content, then read the sentences of 1c, listen to the tape and finish it.
Read the sentences in1d. According to the information, S guess the answers and fill in the blanks. Then listen to tape and finish 1d.
