遣悲怀（其二） To My Deceased Wife

昔日戏言身后意，

‘What if one of us should die?’ we said for fun one day;

今朝都到眼前来。

But now it has come true and passed before my eyes.

衣裳已施行看尽，

I can’t bear to see your clothes and give them away;

针线犹存未忍开。

I seal your embroidery lest it should draw my sights.

尚想旧情怜婢仆，

Remembering your kindness, I’m kind to our maids;

也曾因梦送钱财。

Dreaming of your bounty, I give bounties as before.

诚知此恨人人有，

I know there is no mortal but returns to the Shades,

贫贱夫妻百事哀。

But a poor couple like us have more deplore.

【诗意】

往昔曾经戏言我们身后的安排，如今都按你所说的展现在眼前。你穿过的衣裳已经快施舍完了，你的针线盒我珍存着不忍打开。因怀念你我对婢仆也格外怜爱，也曾因梦见你并为你送去钱财。

我诚知死别之恨世间人人都有，但咱们共苦夫妻死别更觉哀痛。

【诗人简介】

元稹（779-831）字微之，河南（今河南洛阳）人。官至同中书门下平章事。曾与白居易共同倡导“新乐府”运动，世称“元白”。有《元氏长庆集》。

Yuan Zhen

A native of Luoyang ( present-day Luoyang City, Henan Province ), Yuan Zhen (779-831) was also known as Weizhi ( courtesy name). The highest position he held in the government was Manager of Affairs with the Secretariat-Chancellery. He led the ‘New Yuefu Movement’ with Bai Juyi. The two poets are hailed as ‘Yuan Bai’. His works are complied into Yuanshi Changqing Ji.
