寻寻觅觅，冷冷清清，凄凄惨惨戚戚。[李清照《声声慢》] 许渊冲翻译：

I look for what I miss; I know not what it is. I feel so sad, so drear, So lonely, without cheer. 林语堂翻译： So dim, so dark, So dense, so dull,

So damp, so dank, so dead.

For ten years the living of the dead knows nought

Though to my mind not brought Could the dead be forgot? Her lonely grave is far, a thousand miles away. To whom can I my grief convey?

料得年年肠断处，明月夜，短松冈。[苏轼《江城子》] Burton Watson翻译：

Year after year will it break my heart? The moonlit grave, The stubby pines.
