Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It’s to celebrate the lunar calendar ‘s new year.In the evening before the Spring Festival ,families get together and have a big meal.In many places people like to set off firecrackers.

Dumplings are the most traditional food. Children like the festival very much ,because they can have delicious food and wear new clothes.They can also get some money from their parents. This money is given to children for good luck. People put New Year scrolls on the wall for good fortune.

The Spring Festival lasts about 15 days long. People visit relatives and friends with the words “Have all your wishes ”. People enjoy the Spring Festival ,during this time they can have a good rest.

At the first day of New Year, I was so excited that I got up very early in the morning. But Mother was earlier than me, and she had gotten the breakfast ready.

Dumplings, thats my favourite. After the wonderful breakfast, I left home with my parents to visit our relatives. On the way, I said "Happy New Year" to everyone that I met and they all said that back to me. Everyone is happy and friendly. In my relatives house, they prepared many sweets and snacks for visitors. They are all very delicious. The more exciting thing was that I got some money from my relatives. I had a fine day in my relatives family.

My first day of New Year was very happy. It was a good start, and I would try my best to make this happiness last for the whole year.

Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, is the longest and most important holiday for Chinese people. It is usually celebrated from the eighth day of the twelfth month to the fifteenth of the first month (lantern festival), by Chinese lunar calendar. Traditionally, from the 23rd to the 27th of the twelfth lunar month, every family cleans and paints their houses and does New Year shopping.

In rural China, hanging New Year paintings is a must. Bought from the market, New Year pictures are hanged on every important spots of the house-the gete, rooms, the kitchen, the storehouse, the well, and the stable. Portraits of village god and kitchen got are usually pasted up on niched to express people‘s wishes for peace and happiness. For average Chinese farmers, hanging New Year paintings bring about unusual festive joy and delight to them. Many provinces in China are known for their distinctive New Year paintings, from

northern Hebei, Shangdong, Henan and Tianjin , to southern Shandong, Henan and Tianjin, to southern Guangdong and Fujian, from eastern Jiangsu to western Shaanxi and Sichuan. Among them, the painting genre from Wuqiang County, Hebei Province enjoys a long history, diversified styles and widespread reputation.

the beginning of the spring and thus it is also called the "spring festival". "xin" means "new" and "nian" means "year".

there are many stories told about the origin of "nian", which actually is a name of animals. the old story says that the beast "nian" with a very big mouth was so fierce and could swallow many people in one single bite. people were very scared. an old man offered to subdue "nian" and said to "nian": "i hear that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents?" so "nian" swallowed many of the other beasts that hurt people and their domestic animals. the old man turned out to be an immortal god and riding the beast "nian" flied to the heaven. now that "nian" is gone and other beasts were also scared into forests, people began to enjoy their peaceful life.

before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each years end to scare away "nian" in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.from there on, the term "guo nian" has the meaning of "pass-over" or "survive" the "nian".

by tradition, chinese businesses had to pay off all debts by the year-end and thus if they could get it over, it is worth for the celebration of the new year.today people still put up red paper and firing firecrackers as way of celebration. "guo nian" becomes a tradition of celebration for thousand of years.

new year‘s day is one of important days for many people in the word during the year.most people spend the new year‘sday in hotels.january 1st is considered as the new year‘s day.most companies,shops,school,and government offices are closed during that time.people prepare for new year‘s dayfrom late december.
