忙不过来,没有时间读书。后来,孙权一再讲读书的好处,讲了自己读书的收益,也讲了汉光武帝在兵马忙乱之中也坚持学习的故事。吕蒙深受感动,从此认真学习,他读的书也超过了一般人。一次,吴国军师鲁肃路过吕蒙营寨,鲁肃本来也不太瞧得起吕蒙,但为了礼节,也只得去拜访吕蒙。吕蒙热情地接待了他,并在和鲁肃的交谈中,对如何与蜀将关羽联合的事提出了五条计策。鲁肃听后改变了态度,对吕蒙亲切地说:“我一直认为你能武不能文,现在看来,你学识渊博,已不是以前的粗人了。”吕蒙笑着说:“士别三日,即更刮目相待。”从此,两人成了好友,后来鲁肃还推荐吕蒙继任大都督。

后用此典比喻在与人重逢时,不能用老眼光看人,应该用新的眼光另眼相待。
