关于中国节日的英文短文

Nowadays, some western holidays like Christmas Eve and Valentine’s Day have become so popular with Chinese people that they have been a part of some people’s life. On the contrary, some

traditional Chinese festivals gradually are ignored by more and more people, especially young people. However, to our delight, some social groups have appealed to common people for more

attention to our own national culture.

Although a few people once advocated that traditional festivals like the Spring Festival should be discarded because they have become obstacles to social progress. It can not be accepted and

supported by the majority of Chinese people in reality. Indeed, the old way of spending festivals produces several disadvantages such as money wasting and transportation overloading. But we

cannot disregard its other side: traditional festivals play an active role in our life. Traditional festivals not only bring joy but also bring the family together, which is so priceless in modern society.

What we should do is to preserve the positive things and make them

flourish in the modern world. As for the negative aspects of it, we should not hesitate to abandon them and prevent them

from affecting and troubling us and the next generation.

Spring Festival is the most important festival in China .It’s to

celebrate the lunar calendar ‘s new year .In the evening before the Spring Festival ,families get together and have a big meal

.In many places people like to set off firecrackers .Dumplings are the most traditional food .Children like the festival very much ,because they can have delicious food and wear new clothes

.They can also get some money from their parents. This money is given to children for good luck . People put New Year scrolls on the wall for good fortune . The Spring Festival lasts about 15

days long .People visit relatives and friends with the words “Have all your wishes ”. People enjoy the Spring Festival ,during this time they can have a good rest .

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunarcalendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country.

Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we will try to come home for the celebration. The moon that night looks the brightest in the whole lunar month. What we love most is the time

we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit togetherand eat moon cakes and fruit, sharing our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have a

wider range of choices such as travelling andvisiting our relatives or friends.

It is noticeable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while Chinese traditional holidays are being somewhat neglected. Old people often complain that Chinese

New Year has lost its real meaning. To their astonishment, young people in China who are ignorant about Chinese traditional holidays are crazy about Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

There are several possible reasons for this phenomenon. First, western nations, such as the United States and Britain, are powerful and dominant in every aspect. Everything in these countries

is assumed to be superior and adored by some modern young people. Second, the prevalenceof English as a world language and the development of globalization enable western culture to prevail in

China. Overwhelmed by such a trend, Chinese unconsciously get involved in western culture. Last but not least, some Chinese people have blind faith in foreign things while miss our own possessions with contempt.

I am critical of this trend. China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. In modern times, Chinese tradition should be preserved and promoted. But it seems that young people no

longer treasure the traditions. On the contrary, they turn to pursue enthusiastically a supposedly more modern culture. If this trend is allowed to continue, the priceless heritage of our

ancestors will be replaced by western traditions. Nobody expects such a

consequence. So let’s join hand in hand to protect Chinese tradition, especially traditional holidays.
