The Forbidden City is a palace complex located in the heart of Beijing, China. It was the imperial palace of the Chinese dynasties for over 500 years, from the Ming Dynasty in 1420 to the end of the Qing Dynasty in 1912.
The Forbidden City is also known as the Palace Museum and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in China. It covers an area of 720,000 square meters and has over 9,000 rooms. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts – the Outer Court and the Inner Court. The Outer Court was used for ceremonial events and was accessible to the public. The Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Preserving Harmony are located in the Outer Court. These halls were used for important ceremonies such as the emperor's coronation and the biannual imperial exams.
