British and American English说课稿

Hello, everyone. It’s my honor to stand here and interpret my lesson. The content of my lesson is Module one in Book 5. And this lesson is reading part, including introduction & reading. I'll explain this lesson plan from four aspects: Analysis of the teaching material, the teaching aims, the teaching procedure, and the prediction, reflection and assessment of the teaching. First, let me talk about my understanding of the teaching material.
I. Analysis of the teaching material
1. Status and Function
Module 1 is about British and American English. In this module, the students are supposed to know more about the differences between them. At the same time, they should master some words used in these two languages. Such a topic is related to daily life, so it is helpful to raise learning interests of students. If the Ss can learn it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest in this module. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material.
2. Analysis of the students
Secondly, I want to tell something about the students.
The topic of British and American English is very close to study, and most students are interested in it. So this topic can greatly attract their interests. However, they haven’t completely changed their methods of studying and cannot involve themselves in the class activities fully. Besides, they have difficulty expressing themselves in English clearly. Some students are not very interested in English. Therefore, they still need many opportunities to practice what they have learned and to develop their autonomous learning ability and cooperative learning ability.
3. The teaching strategies
Now let’s focus on the strategies of teaching and learning.
As is known to us all, a good teaching method requires the teacher should help Ss develop the abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and good sense of the English language. Teachers should guide Ss to learn well. Therefore, I will adopt task-based language teaching approach, the situational language teaching approach and communicative approach.
4. The studying strategies
As for learning, Ss will learn through the independent study and the cooperative study.
5. Teaching aids
For teaching aids, I will use Multi-media computer, Tape recorder, and PPT in this lesson.
6. The teaching resources
The last is the teaching resources. According to the teaching content, I will use computer to offer Ss pictures, videos and other resources related to the study of this lesson.
II. Teaching aims 1. The teaching aims

After analyzing the teaching material and students, according to the new curriculum standard, I’ll put forward the teaching aims as follows: (1) Knowledge and skill
To help students master the new words and expressions as well as develop the students’ reading skills. (2) Process and methods
To get every student to participate in class activities and understand the passage by different reading methods.
(3) Emotion and values
To raise the cooperation awareness by pair work or group work and make them love English,
2. Teaching important and difficult points
Well, so much for the teaching aims. Let's come to the next part: the important points and the difficult points. The important points are how to make Ss grasp the new words, phrases and expressions and how to improve their reading skills. As to the difficult points, that is how to improve their language using skills, such as information-gathering, summarizing and communicating.
III. Teaching procedure
Here comes the most important part, the teaching procedure. It includes 4 steps: Step I: Lead-in and pre-reading, Step II: While-reading, Step III: Post-reading, Step IV: Homework.
Step I Lead-in and pre-reading
The first step is Lead-in and Pre-reading. It contains 2 tasks.
In task one, I will use some pictures to ask students to talk about the differences of Chinese and English used in China and the whole world.
In task two, I will tell Ss to look through and discuss the four proverbs in the book.
Through these tasks and pictures, Ss' attention and interest can be attracted. The topic of this class will be put forward. The students will be eager to know something about the topic, and this is the very time to naturally lead the class into step2 While-reading.
Step II while-reading
In this step, I will divide it into two parts: read for information and read for comprehension There will be 2 tasks in the first part. Task 1: the general idea
The students will be asked to just glance at the sub-title and the first sentence of each paragraph and then guess what will be read in the text.
The purpose is to develop students reading skill by making prediction and encourage students to express their thoughts in English.
Task 2: main idea of each paragraph
The Ss will read the whole passage quickly to find out differences between British English and American English on words, grammar, spelling and pronunciation that is listed on the PPT.
These two tasks will enable the Ss to find out the structure of the passage and strengthen their abilities of skimming and scanning.
As to the second part, there will be 2 tasks as well. Task 1: detail reading
Ss read the passage carefully and get the details of the passage. Some activities will be presented, including questions, multiple choice, blank filling and True or False.
