Gore Vidal(1925--2012)
Prolific American novelist, playright and essayist;
one of the greatest stylists of contemporary American prose.
also known for his patrician manner, Transatlantic accent, and witty aphorisms. Most widely regarded social novel: Myra Breckinridge;
Best known historical novels included Julian, Burr, and Lincoln.
His third novel: The City and the Pillar (1948), one of the first major American novels to feature unambiguous homosexuality.
His screenwriting credits: the epic historical drama Ben-Hur (1959), won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Clarence Page (1947- )Pulitzer Prize winner; columnist and member of the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune since 1984. Twice a week, his addresses, with passion and style, the social, economic and political issues affecting people in the United States such as crime, education, hoiusing, hunger and bigotry.
born in Dayton, Ohio and attended Middletown High School in Middletown where he worked on the school's bi-weekly newspaper.
After graduating in 1965, he worked freelance as a writer and photographer for The Middletown Journal and The Cincinnati Enquirer, while he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Ohio University.[2]
Charles Krauthammer (1950- ):Pulitzer Prize winner; prominent political commentator and syndicated columnist with columns in The Washington Post, Time magazine, and other publications. In 2006, he was named America’s most influential columnist by the Financial Times.
born on March 13, 1950, in New York City and raised in Montreal, Quebec, where he attended McGill University and obtained an honors degree in political science and economics in 1970.

1. Drugs Main idea:
The drug problem in United States can not be solved because people’s pursuits of making more money. Prohibition of drug does not work, which will only make the situation even worse.
Supporting argument:
United States was the creation of men who believed that each man has the right to do what he wants ……(3)

2. The Trouble with Legalizing Drugs
Main idea: Legalization sounds too good to be true and as long as demand remains, the traffic will find ways to get through. Demand will remain as long as the social ills remain.

Schmoke thought, prohibition increases crime without eliminating addiction. (14)

3. Legalize? No. Deglamorize Main idea:
Like tobacco, drugs should be deglamorized instead of being legalized. The only way to reduce consumption is to reverse a cultural impression.
