San Tan Yin Yue Scenic Area

San Tan Yin Yue (literally meaning “Three Ponds Reflecting the Moon”) is located in the northern mountain area of Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. It is part of the Danjiangkou Reservoir and has an area of 6.2 km2.

San Tan Yin Yue is well known for the three ponds in its area, which are said to be connected underground. It is said that by standing on the mountain and looking down on the three ponds, one can see the reflection of the image of the moon. The area possesses many cultural relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties, including the 1000-year-old red pine tree, which is a rare species in Hubei Province. There are also many unique Buddhist statues, such as the 'Yin Yue Niang Niang' statue, which is about five meters high.

In addition, there are also various species of animals running through the area. In the summer, San Tan Yin Yue is the home for birds, such as egrets and silver-eared mesia.
