Sweet soup ball is a kind of traditional food in China. Originally named Yuanxiao in the Sui Dynastyit was ever used to refer to the Lantern Festivala day celebrated by eating sweet soup balls and rice glue balls. Sweet soup ball now has a history of over 700 years.This foodmuch favored by peoplefirst appeared in Ningbo. Through its continuous development and improvement, the unique flavor of Ningbo sweet soup balls made of glutinous rice with lard stuffing has gradually e into being.

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. As early as more than 2,000 years ago, in the Western Han Dynasty, it had bee a festival with great significance. On the Lantern Festival, Chinese people craft many types of beautiful lanterns and create many

interesting lantern riddles. At the same time, performances such as dragon lantern dance, lion dance and walking on stilts will be staged. Just like China’s other traditional festivals, the Lantern Festival also has its own special dish “Tangyuan, a glue pudding”. Tangyuan has a similar


pronunciation with “tuanyuan (reunion)” in Chinese, representing reunion, harmony and happiness for the family. Tangyuan is made from glutinous rice flour. You can prepare glutinous rice flour in a bowl and slowly add hot water until they mix into dough. Then you can pinch off the dough and roll them into small balls.

Then you can fill tangyuan with either sweet or savoury fillings. Sweet fillings are often made from peanut butter, black sesame seeds or red beans. But some people prefer the savoury fillings made from meat, mushroom and green vegetables.

Then try to enwrap all the fillings into glutinous rice dough.

You can make different forms for different fillings. Ready? Then you can drop these balls into boiling water and cook them for about 8 minutes until they float. Okay, Just enjoy them!

Round sweet dumplings traditionally are eaten for happiness on the Lantern Festival. Today these dumplings also are a popular dessert in China ,and e in two varieties; one is made of white and brown sugar, sweet-scented osmanthus,nuts and sesame seeds;the other has meat and vegetable fillings. Recently Chinese have begun adding chocolate for a truly unique flavor,even though traditional boiled dumplings,fried sweet dumplings are being popular.
