Significances in English study
When we compare English with Chinese, we can conclude that English has its own
particular features, which make it to be the world’s language.
If we have a better understanding of English, we still can obtain the pleasure from the English culture. One of important figures in English we must know is word plays and triky sentences. Just like Chinese, English also has different rhetoric such as pun, palindrome, anticlimax, alliteration, anagrams, which express the theory, thoughts, and feelings more vividly. Among all rhetoric, especially the anticlimax could create a humorous atmosphere and ease the awkward situation when we are in low spirit. There is no doubt that linguistics has a great impact on our life and also can become power and weapon. Benjamin Franklin ever said, “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately”. To some extent, Franklin making full use of pun enhance the people’s morale. That is, English is just a sharp sword that can defeat enemies in an extremely dangerous condition. From the world’s history, so many great leaders delivered speeches in public to let people summon up courage and motivate then go forward.
Besides, by exploring the origin of English, we can broaden our eyes. Different
country’s culture, custom, and the geographical position all can jump into our mind. As for the way we read the Chinese classics, we might be lost in a labyrinth. However, with the solid foundation of English skills, we will have the ability to understand western classics more accurately and acquire more abstruse knowledge.
