【题文】Blue whales(蓝鲸) are the largest animals in the world and they are still on the earth today! A blue whale can grow to be as long as a nine-story building. The blue whale is such a vast animal that its heart alone weighs about 1,000 pounds and is about the size of a small car.
The blue whale is just one kind of whale. There are many other members of the whale family. Though whales live in the sea, they aren’t fish. Like human beings, they are mammals(哺乳动物). All mammals have something in common like using lungs(肺) to breathe air. However, unlike humans who use their noses to breathe, whales breathe air through blowholes on the top of their heads.
An adult blue whale has a large stomach and it usually eats up 8,000 pounds of food every day. Small fish are their favorite food. Blue whales usually live in groups and they like to “sing” to each other. In fact, many whales make friends and always “sing” to other whales. The blue whale’s songs are the loudest. And some of their songs can last for thirty minutes.
Scientists know about more than 80 kinds of whales, and they believe that there may be more kinds of whales in the
world. Next time you go to travel by sea, watch for whales. Maybe you’ll find a new kind of whale!
