Love is what matters in life

—film review of COCO

Thought-provoking. If someday I am asked to use a word to make a conclusion about the film COCO, it would be my choice. A good film can not only attract people, but also bring them a host of feelings that they never had before, and on my personal note, COCO can meet this standard.

COCO is a story about a little boy Miguel and his families. Miguel lived in a warm and big family which consider making shoes as its family business and hates music as a consequence of a defection about Miguel’s great-great-grandfather who used to be a musician and left his family for chasing dream. Differing from his families, Miguel is fond of music and aimed to be a musician like Ernesto de la Cruz who is a renowned singer when he was alive and possessed many fans. However, one day in accident, the door of the land of the dead was opened by Miguel and he met his families’ souls there who endeavored to send him back to the real world. Surprisingly, Miguel detected that Ernesto de la Cruz is a thief and murderer who stole his grand-grand-father’s song and murdered him. Thankfully, Miguel was the winner in the competition between him and de la Cruz. He saved his grand-grand-father and was sent to the real world.

"The real death is that no one in the world remembers you". This is a classic line in the movie, which is always seen as a question about the implication of real death and make many people discuss it together and be in deep thought. However, according to the whole movie, the connotation of "remember" seems to be more significant than "real death" in my heart, since "remember" represents a bond of love between human. It is the same in other lines such as "Remember me before the memory of love disappears". From the bottom of my heart, the deepest impression the film gave to me is that love, as a bond of everyone in the world, is the real matter that we need to cherish. Miguel 's grand-grand-father was saved because of his daughter's love; Miguel was understood finally because his families love him; Ernesto de la Cruz was caught and spurned because the more love fans have for the song, the more disgust they will have about Ernesto de la Cruz. Love, as a connection among human-being,


is the foundation of our family, our society, our world, even everything. If Miguel don't love music, why must he chase his dream regardless of families' objection? Also, if there is no bond, no connection between human or even that there is only ourselves in this world, what is the meaning of chasing our dream? Even our dream will not exist. Everything will be meaningless without love. Furthermore, I firmly believe that it is love that makes us human-being differ from other animals. Animals can eat, sleep or run just like us, but what they cannot learn forever is how to love and be loved by others. They do their things just because of their nature and instinct, while we do something because we have feelings and we love someone. Since love can distinct us from other creatures, we must feel it and cherish it.

"The family is more important than the dream". Faced with the selection between love and dream, Miguel make the final decision that love is the one he wanted, which is the same as mine. Miguel’s choice brought us a happy ending in which Miguel saved his grand-grand-father and achieved his goal at last. But just as the distinguished movie character Forrest Gump said, "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get", there aren’t so many happy endings in real life and conservation between love and other things sometimes is inevitable. Since it is so, what should we choose when we are faced with this question? From my point of view, just as is mentioned above, we are supposed to guard the ties between ourselves and other people who love us truly. This love is various because it is not only the love among us and our relations, but also love for our society, our country and us human-being. Love makes our world better just like COCO’s ending. Actually, this question doesn’t have a standard answer. Some people like me choose love as their treasure, while others think dream or other things are their wealth. Moreover, if environment allow, we can also combine our love and dream together to get a perfect result. What I said above is only based on what I understand and everyone can have his unique opinion about this. COCO offers a singular motion picture experience to me and I will be surprised if another film tops it for the best of 2017. I recommend it to everyone from the bottom of my heart.
