Title:? The Amazing American TV dramas
Nowadays, more and more people, especially the English learners are keen on some American
TV dramas .As this tendency widely spread, it attracted several different kind of,reactions .Some people enjoyed the fantastic stories while others just regarded it as a sheer waste of time.
As far as I am concerned, I would prefer the former one. In terms of American TV drama
watching, there are several great advantages, one of which is that it enables to strengthen our spoken English. When I was a little boy, I used to watch some catoons, in which Chinese idioms are used here and there. As time went on, one day I could even actually blurt out some idioms learned from the cartoons. That really surprised my parents. So I believe that watching American TV dramas can also be helpful for us to cultivate our sense of spoken English unconsciously. Maybe some day it is hard for us to prevent some English dialogues from popping out.
In addition, our listening skills can also be enhanced through the joyful watching. There is much slang in the TV dramas and many dialogues are perfectly concise. Maybe we could hardly understand it clearly right at the same time when we were watching. But it is easy for us to comprehend the general ideas approximately, or to recognise some words that we are familiar with. Yet days and months multiplying, their conversations may come to our mind naturally and thus our ability of listening can rise to a new degree!
What’s more, American TV dramas are usually basing on the normal life of ordinary citizens. The situations thereon can contribute to our knowledge about the life in America. We would gradually learn a lot as their social conditions, history, habits in life and cultural phenomenon exhibit in front of us. Moreover, many interesting meanings which can be found in the dramas are different from the English we learned in school. Take “busboy” for instance, it means the workers who do some cleaning in a restaurant rather than “the boy on the bus”. Therefore, American TV drama watching can enrich our knowledge capital and help us to master American culture well both of which would be beneficial to our future if we want to go abroad.
Furthermore, sometimes we can enjoy the life together with the characters in the dramas, learn many different life philosophies from their stories and certainly develop a new hobby and share more topics with friends. With full communications we can make more friends. By the way, watching American TV dramas is also a great way to relax ourselves.
Instead of learning English with difficulty, I would rather master it through an easy way. In addition, watching American TV dramas presents us with not only different cultures but also native English expression, which is the key to having a good command of English.
